LICAF’s opening event was an entertaining battle LICAF’s opening event was an entertaining battle between Asterix and Tintin, a rematch of an event ten years ago, when, we were told, Asterix beat Tintin by one vote. 🙋 Debaters argued for each side while cartoonists drew on stage as the cases were made, kicking off @lakesinternationalcomics at @brewery_arts_kendal with energy, humour, chaos, and irreverence. 🥸 The audience voted by raising their hands, which were counted and tallied three times. Although Tintin was marginally ahead at the beginning of the event before any arguments were made, the final poll of the night was decisive. Asterix won by a landslide. 🪽 Lakes International Comic Arts Festival Friday, 2nd October, 2026 Brewery Arts Centre Main Theatre, Kendal, UK Asterix vs. Tintin: The Rematch £10.65 / £5.40 concession, not included with festival ticket #licaf #lakesinternationalcomicartfestival #kendalcumbria #asterix #tintin
Cape & Cowl Con feels distinctively East Bay, and Cape & Cowl Con feels distinctively East Bay, and it’s all the better for it. 😎 The Bay Area comics scene turns up for this one, and it’s refreshing to see the stellar lineup of guest cartoonists in a setting where they are actively meeting fans and signing books. In a time when comic conventions are increasingly commercial and decreasingly personal, @capecowlcomics returns to what makes these events special: building a thriving local comics community and letting it grow into a force of its own. And with @factionbrewing providing the beers by a foggy San Francisco skyline, plus space for a packed artists’ alley and an outdoor stage for panels, it’s hard to imagine a better way to spend the last Sunday in August. 🌉☀️ @capecowlcon : You rock; don’t ever change. 🤘 Cape & Cowl Con Sunday, August 30th, 2026 Faction Brewing 2501 Monarch St., Alameda, CA 11am to 6pm Free entry! Leaving an empty seat and some peace. 🤍 It’s Leaving an empty seat and some peace. 🤍 It’s been an exceptionally difficult couple of days to feel motivated to create. I don’t have anything to add to the tributes that hasn’t already been said. Maybe it’s more important to stop reading (and sharing) endless memorials and log off. Feel the grief, put the music and the movies on, then take that empty seat and confront the blank page, so that the stories can continue on. We have work to do. I make comics and graphic novels. Today, I’m tir I make comics and graphic novels. Today, I’m tired. 😔 If a book is written, does it make a sound in the universe if it’s not read? 🧐 Do comics have life beyond the panels if they are not seen by anyone? 🤔 Editors, publishers, artists, writers, creatives, readers, is anyone out there? 🤯📚 Telling these stories feels like shouting into the void while continuing to create when no-one chooses to listen. 🌌😅 Sometimes I can’t hear myself think over the sound of my own sad violin. 🎻🎶 ===== Art by: @johannamation Letters by: @lynotttj ===== #graphicnovels #comics #artists #publishing #kidlit

Tension, drama, and the highest stakes in the whol Tension, drama, and the highest stakes in the whole universe! 👨‍🚀 This comic panel captures all of that in a moment of reckoning for our main character. 🤯 What will happen? 😱 Can he save the galaxy? 🌌 Are there aliens involved? 👽 You’ll have to read our short comic to find out. 🪐✨ ===== Art by: @johannamation Letters by: @lynotttj ===== #comics #graphicnovels #verybigcomics #museumoftheuncanny #artists #comisart #indiecomics #comicsartists #comiccreators #makecomics #originalcomics #graphicnovel #kidlitgn #graphicnovelart #graphicnovelartists #comicbooks #anthologycomics #artistsoninstagram #smallcomics #comicwriters #kidlitillustrators #childrensillustrators #kidlitcreators #sciencefiction #scificomicart #comicartistlife #sequentialartists #childrensbookartists #smallartistsoninstagram #comicpanelart
Cosmic confusion in our comic! ☄️😵‍💫 I Cosmic confusion in our comic! ☄️😵‍💫 I like how expressive this panel is. 🤨 I think the tone of the dialogue really comes through in the art of the characters and the lettering. ⭐️ It feels like a good time to be inspired to create stories where outer space is vibrant, diverse, fun, and exciting rather than bleak and dystopian. 🧑‍🚀🚀 Not that I don’t enjoy a thrilling science fiction book, I’ve just been leaning into whimsy lately! 🛸🌀 ===== Art by: @johannamation Letters by: @lynotttj ===== #comics #artists #childrensbookillustrator #museumoftheuncanny #verybigcomics #graphicnovels #kidlit #kidlitartist #makecomics #indiecomics #indiecomicsartists #scificomic #sciencefiction #sciencefictioncomics #graphicnovelartists #indiecomicscommunity #originalcomics #originalcomicart #comicartist #comicartists #comicsanthology #childrensbooks #childrensbookart #comicbookartistsofinstagram #independentcomiccreators #indiecomicslove #comiclettering #smallcomics #comicpanels #comicstorytelling
Barrelling into the week like this guy! 😂 I kno Barrelling into the week like this guy! 😂 I know it’s Tuesday, but since yesterday was a bank holiday it feels like the start of the week and I’m only just getting stuck in. 🌟 Hope it’s a productive and peaceful one for everyone. 💖 If you’re working on a creative project, here’s to making a good breakthrough like the astronaut character does in this comic book illustration, even if it isn’t on an outer space adventure! 😉💫 ===== Art by: @johannamation Letters by: @lynotttj ===== #comics #sciencefiction #museumoftheuncanny #verybigcomics #artists #indiecomics #childrensbookillustrators #scificomics #sequentialart #artistsoninstagram #comicartistsofinstagram #comicartist #comicanthology #anthologycomics #graphicnovel #graphicnovelart #kidlitartist #yacomics #comicbooks #childrensbookartist #independentcomicbooks #originalcomicbookart #comicbookanthology #kidlitgn #comicpanels #comicwriters #comiccreators #smallpresscomic #comicillustrationart #comicartshare
